Better than a Barbie Dream House

As a 5 year old, I remember asking Santa for a Barbie Dream House. As I placed his cookies on the fireplace, and poured him a glass of milk – I could hardly wait to wake up and play with the gift I was hoping he would leave me.

As I sit here thinking about this new squad arriving in a few days, it feels like I’m that five year old again on Christmas Eve. This time, I’m not hoping for any cool gifts – I am confident that I am receiving one of the greatest treasures of my life from my sweet Heavenly Father. 

Right now there are 39 people all across America who are packing their bags and getting ready to train for the experience of a lifetime. These 39 people are also known as P Squad, and they are my gift from the Lord. I have the honor of training, discipling, leading, and loving them for the next year!

We will send these men and women into the nations to share the gospel, serve, and live with ‘the least of these’ (Matthew 25:40). They will be on the mission field for 11 months, will live in 11 different countries, and will serve 11 different people groups. 

Our two on-field leaders (also known as squad leaders) arrive in Gainesville tomorrow, and we will spend a few days preparing them to lead P Squad well. On Wednesday, the other 37 missionaries will arrive! We will spend 10 days activating them in cultivating deeper intimacy with God, teaching them how to minister to different people groups, and equipping them to live in community with each other for the next year. 

After this training, P Squad will return to their homes for a few weeks and then we will all meet back up in Atlanta in October to launch them into the nations! 

As I sit here thinking about the arrival of my gift, I am in total awe of our Heavenly Father. I can hardly believe the day is almost here, and I am so unbelievably excited to unwrap all that Jesus has for us over the next year!
